Las Animas
Playa Las Ánimas de Quimixto, known as just “Las Animas”, is a beautiful beach to the south of Puerto Vallarta. It is a stunning 2-mile long stretch nestled in a small cove south of Boca de Tomatlan. The beach here is wide and perfect for sunbathing. The sand is clear and fine, the water is also clear and the waves are gentle, making it the perfect beach for families with small children.
A favorite day tour destination, the beach can get crowded on weekends and holidays, and there are many tour operators and cruise trips in the bay that arrive here during the day. However, the soft white sand, calm blue water, and picturesque views more than make up for the occasional crowds.
Las Animas is very lively with many restaurants and bars where you can enjoy refreshments and authentic seafood under the shade of a palapa. The beautiful waters provide great visibility and the ideal water temperature for snorkeling.
There are also paddleboard rentals, snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing, riding jet skis, and taking banana-boat rides. Away from the beach you will find an adventure park with ziplines, balance beams, and much more!
Las Animas is the first beach 2 miles (3 km) from Boca, right after Caballo Beach. It is remote and only accessible by boat or a 1 ½ hour hike from Boca de Tomatlan. Visitors from Puerto Vallarta can take a water taxi from Los Muertos Pier or a 15-minute water taxi from Boca de Tomatlan. The pier makes it easy to get on and off the boats. Enjoy your visit to Las Animas, Jalisco, Mexico!
